Lead Teacher: (1) toddler, (1) preschool

  • Hours: Vary according to classroom and schedule
    • 1/4 hour break for each 4 hours of work time
  • Classification: Exempt
  • Summary of Position: Responsible for planning, implementation and administration of a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate classroom, including daily operation, supervision of staff and volunteers, provision of activities across the domains, and adherence to the philosophies and standards and practices as established by NAEYC and the Mass. Dept. of EEC, and in accordance with the mission of Alef-Bet. To also provide the required documentation and record keeping.

  • Education:
  • Required: EEC Lead Teacher Certification
    • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Preferred: Associates or Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education
    • (A Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education will be required to be completed by 2010)
  • Experience:
    • Required: Prior successful experience with young children
    • Preferred: Prior successful experience in a Lead Teacher position with young children
    • Judaic knowledge

    Required Physical Abilities:

    • Ability to sit on floor, reach, bend and position self at child's level for sustained periods of time, every day
    • Ability to assist or lift a child up to 45 pounds (ALEF), 55 pounds (BET and GIMMEL) , if necessary
    • Stamina to maintain focused attention and activity
    • Ability to perform small-motor / eye-hand coordination tasks
    • Ability to maintain visual and auditory supervision
  • Other Essential Functions:

    • Understand, respect and maintain confidentiality and the NAEYC Code of Professional Conduct
    • Understand and implement mandated reporting obligations
    • Develop and implement an individualized curriculum for each child and the class based on the goals of Alef-Bet and NAEYC developmentally appropriate standards
    • Provide appropriate supervision to ensure a healthy, safe and clean learning environment
    • Based upon a curriculum across the domains, plan and provide activities which promote the wholistic comprehensive growth of Alef-Bet children
    • Maintain up to date records of observation, assessment, and individualized planning for each Alef-Bet child
    • Supervise and train all other individuals working in the classroom relative to program and classroom practices
    • Implement positive guidance strategies consistent with Alef-Bet philosophy and Behavior Management Plan and practices, and when applicable, in conjunction with any outlined in a child's IEP
    • Maintain ongoing constructive interaction with parents to best meet the needs of the child and family
    • Coordinate with other staff in meeting the goals of the program, classroom planning and meeting the needs of the child and family
    • Maintain and submit program documentation as required
    • Provide notes and input for participation in regularly scheduled classroom team meeting to discuss and review the children's progress and receive any guidance in working effectively towards goals for the children
    • Attend required meetings, and participate in training opportunities to enhance personal and professional growth in keeping with meeting the EEC 20 hour / program year training requirement, 5 of which must be in Special Education
    • Support Jewish values and program content

    • Ability to work well with other staff, parents and volunteers and to contribute to a successful team approach
  • Non-Essential Functions:

    • Order materials to address the programming needs of the classroom
    • Participate in school sponsored parent events
    • Participate in out of center, non-professional staff events
    • Perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by classroom teacher or administrative staff

  • Supervision to be received: Meet with Director a minimum of once a month, or as need is determined
  • Supervision to be conducted: Teacher, Assistant Teacher, One-to-One Aid (if assigned), and/or Intern (if assigned), a minimum of every two weeks
